MONTREAL AVIATION MUSEUM – STRATEGIC STATEMENTS

The Montreal Aviation Museum occupies unceded territory that originally served as a site of meeting and exchange for the Indigenous peoples that lived here, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe nations. They are the stewards of this land, as well as of the surrounding land and waters. We recognize their rights, the destructive forces of colonialism that took this land from them, our role as settlers on this land, and the responsibility we have as a community in resisting colonialism and its impact today.

Mission

Our mission is to educate the public on the invaluable contributions Quebec and Canada brought to the field of aviation and to inspire future generations to value, protect and promote this heritage.

Vision

Our vision is to be the pre-eminent aviation museum and aircraft restoration centre in the province of Quebec. Our aim is to be the primary partner in aviation heritage preservation for scholars, government entities and the aerospace community.

To achieve this vision, the Montreal Aviation Museum (MAM) will execute on the following goals by 2030:

  • Educate the public on Quebec’s contribution to aviation history in Canada and internationally.
  • Enhance the visitor experience by introducing visitors to the wonders of flight through its collection of artifacts, including antique aircraft and its aviation art gallery.
  • Engage youth by developing educational programs in collaboration with schools, colleges and universities.
  • Establish formal and long-term partnerships with public institutions and actors in the aerospace industry.
  • Seek broad community involvement, augment and diversify the Museum’s volunteer base; maintain partnerships with other organizations engaged in the historical, arts and culture sectors.

Core Values

  • Diversity and Inclusion: We intentionally value and leverage diversity to foster innovation and reflect our community’s richness. We strive to create a safe place for the meaningful exploration of diverse viewpoints.
  • Respect: We treat people with dignity and recognize the worth of each person.
  • Service: We serve our visitors and the broader community by giving our time, talents and creativity.
  • Integrity: We strive to meet the highest level of ethics and personal integrity in all we do.
  • Teamwork: Our staff and volunteers are united in our commitment to further the Museum’s mission. We recognize that we can achieve more through collaboration and teamwork.

Montreal Aviation Museum History

The Montreal Aviation Museum was founded in 1998 by Godfrey Stewart Pasmore, an aviation enthusiast.

A community oriented, volunteer-based, federally chartered non-profit organization, MAM is housed in the historic “Old Stone Barn” on the Macdonald Campus of McGill University in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec.  It is the only museum of its kind in the province of Quebec that preserves the civil and military aviation heritage of Quebec and the rest of Canada. It also honours men and women who, through their aircraft and events, positioned aviation as a key contributor to our socioeconomic development.

The story is told through displays, information boards and historic artifacts constructed or restored in the Museum’s workshops. The exhibits are complemented by a world-class display of aviation art and a reference library. The premises include facilities for presentations, receptions, hosted organizations and educational activities.
